Lil'DMXter 2

Lil'DMXter
THE Must-Have Tool for Lighting Professionals

Serious about lighting? So are we. That's why we use and recommend the Lil'DMXter 2.

The Lil'DMXter 2 from Goddard Design is not just another DMX tester. It's the most comprehensive DMX troubleshooting tool available today, with functions the others can only dream of. When the proverbial is really hitting the fan, you need the Lil'DMXter 2.

So, what is it? For over 10 years now, the Lil'DMXter has been the industry standard DMX512 testing device. It's a DMX transmitter & receiver; a DMX analyzer & generator; a true DMX cable tester; a moving-light tester; a "flicker finder"; a basic control system, a rigger's remote and a back-up for your lighting console.

It allows you to vary almost every parameter of your DMX and regenerate the signal, often fixing compatibility problems. You can snapshot scenes from your console and use them to find faults, test cables even when the other end isn't available, or simply flash through your rig one channel at a time. The Lil'DMXter also provides a signal to trigger your oscilloscope, for finding those really tricky faults.

In short, if it can't be fixed with the help of a Lil'DMXter, it probably can't be fixed.

Despite having all these features, the Lil'DMXter is remarkably simple to operate, with plain English menus on a 40-character backlit display. The rugged, water-resistant case that the Lil'DMXter comes in also makes it one of the most reliable fault-finding tools you'll ever come across.

Features:
  • Comes built into a hard case
  • Internal rechargeable battery with built-in AC charger
  • Transmit DMX in 4 modes: Adjust One, Adjust All, Autofade, Send/Edit Snapshot
  • Receive any DMX512 signal in two modes: View Levels or View Parameters
  • View Parameter provides an error summary including parity errors, framing errors, break too short, mark after break too short, overflow and broken line detection
  • Display values as decimal, hexadecimal or percentage
  • Flicker Finder mode displays number of errors, minimum and maximum values and system error rate, as compared to stored snapshots of your console's output
  • Cable Test mode tests using actual data, not just continuity testing. Allows you to test a cable even when both ends are not available – perfect for installations. Tests all 5 pins, not just 1 – 3.
  • Multi-Channel Mode for testing moving lights (see brochure and manual for full details)
  • Show Saver allows your Lil'DMXter 2 to act as a back-up device for your main console. Stores up to eight 512 channel looks, recorded as ‘snapshots' from your console, or built using the Lil'DMXter. Looks can be named, given fade times up to 30 seconds, viewed and edited blind, and played back with cross-fades or blackouts. A proportional Grand Master is available for playback
  • Show Saver can also be used for testing dimmers and colour scrollers
  • Lil'DMXter provides a synchronization output for triggering oscilloscopes to view output.
  • Optional Receive Scope Trigger Hardware provides trigger for synching oscilloscopes to DMX512 signals
  • Optional ShowPlayer software allows the Lil'DMXter to act as a simple DMX play back unit for unattended light shows (see ShowPlayer spec sheet below for further details)
  • Low power consumption means standby time between charges of greater than 6 months

The Essential features of a Lil'DMXter
in a Hand-Held tester!

The Lil'DMXter has become the industry-standard test instrument for DMX-512. But after numerous requests for a smaller, less expensive tester that can send and receive DMX-512, Goddard Design developed the miniDMXter.

More than a simple rigger's remote, the miniDMXter allows you to raise up to 64 dimmers at a time to any level, or bump through a system one dimmer at a time. It can receive DMX from a console's output, displaying three dimmers at a time, checking the signal's integrity. It can also check DMX-512 cables, checking for continuity and with actual data.

Features:
  • Powered by two AA batteries
  • Packaged in a rugged aluminium case
  • 32 character LCD display
  • Transmit DMX in 4 modes: Adjust One Dimmer, Adjust All Dimmers, Autofade, Adjust Some
  • Receives any DMX-512 signal, displays levels and reports errors
  • Errors detected and displayed include parity errors, framing errors, break too short, mark after break too short, overflow and broken line detection
  • Display values as decimal, hexadecimal or percentage
  • Cable Test mode tests for continuity and with actual data (double ended cable test only). Pins 4 & 5 may also be tested for continuity.
